Teacher held for raping student, forcing abortion in Uttar Pradesh

A 42-year-old school teacher has been arrested in Lucknow for repeatedly raping a girl from a senior class.

The Uttar Pradesh Police Monday arrested a school teacher on charges of repeatedly raping a student of a senior class and forcing her to abort her child. The wife of the teacher and two lady doctors who performed the abortion on the 17-year-old have also been arrested.

As per the police, the teacher, R C Tiwari, 45, at a central government run school in Lucknow’s Gomti Nagar area, sexually exploited the girl for about four months. Threatening to fail her in exams if she did not cooperate, the teacher assaulted her every day and warned her not to tell her family. She was allegedly made to undergo termination of pregnancy at a private hospital on Lucknow’s IIM Road on January 10.

Gomti Nagar Circle Officer Satya Sen Yadav said the girl’s father lodged an FIR on Sunday night and Tiwari, his wife Anita, and two doctors, Aqsa Siddiqui and Vijayshree were arrested Monday morning. Anita had carried the minor to the hospital. All four have been sent to jail, the CO said, adding the girl’s father has alleged that she was sexually exploited since October last year.

The school authorities suspended Tiwari Monday morning and initiated an inquiry for his termination. Tiwari had joined the school in August 2013. Earlier, he stayed at a rented accommodation but moved into the residential colony of the school in December.

“The girl’s parents met me on January 11, a day after she underwent abortion. They were not ready to lodge a police complaint. I persuaded them to lodge a complaint and on Sunday I went with them to lodge the FIR,” the school principal said.
