What made you switch to television?
I haven’t switched to television — I’m doing Seeta aur Geeta only because I found this a very unique and novel concept and won’t be doing other shows. In fact,I wouldn’t have ever explored this medium if it were a regular show. But this show treads the thin line between television and cinema and is a remake of a blockbuster that pretty much made Hemaji (Malini) what she is. It was a fantastic opportunity.

But isn’t this too early in your film career for you to experiment?
There’s no fixed formula for establishing one’s credentials or working anymore. The line between the two media is very thin now and many established actors explore television too. I’m here to do what I enjoy and Seeta aur Geeta seemed like a project I would enjoy doing.

Is the mass appeal of television also a draw?
Indeed one can’t ignore the factor. If you do your job well, television can make you a household name; people consider you a part of their family.

How close an adaptation is it to the film?
While the story has been adapted to stay true to the original, there are changes that the writers have made to help the present generation identify with the characters. The original was made in the 1980s and the world has moved on since then. The show is considerate towards this fact and accommodates the present day scenario.

Also, television allows a writer more time to work on the story and they can hence take creative liberties. Take, for example, the sweet love story between Sanjeev Kumar and Hemaji. There was chemistry between the two but was allowed limited screen time due to time constraints. On television, the love story is allowed to blossom.

Do you fear comparison?
I hope people don’t compare because Hemaji is a legend and great at all that she did. Besides, the two media are as different as chalk and cheese.

Is Anjorie more like Seeta or Geeta?
Geeta is an extrovert, full of life and love, speaks her mind and is exuberant, which is what Anjorie is like too,in real life.
