All information pertaining to the Taj Mahal will now be available at the click of a mouse. The website launched by the Uttar Pradesh State Tourism Department will enable visitors to access information on the Taj,besides uploading photographs, impressions and video clips of the monument shot by them.

The website, says the department,is a first-of-its-kind for any monument and has been developed targetting the heavy inflow of tourists expected during Commonwealth Games 2010.

The website http://tajmahal.gov.in has been designed by Prosix Softron on the guidelines of the Centre, with partial financial support from the Archeological Survey of India.

“The Taj Mahal is one monument which fetches the largest number of visitors from all across the world. We have got this website designed for tourists. We do not want them to go back with bad experiences.”

The homepage opens with different views of the Taj even as the website is loaded with a collection of photographs of the monument taken during different times of the day, including the famous full moon night view. The website has been connected to Google and also shows the landmark via Google Earth.

Other features of the website include impressions of travellers from the 17th century to the modern day, exclusive video clips of the monument, meanings of different Surahs inscribed on the walls of the Taj,photographs of visitors like Sir Ben Kingsley and his wife Lady Diana and information on certified guides, among others. The contact details of the UP tourism offices in Lucknow and Agra are also available on the website.

“We have also asked the tourists and website visitors to share their pictures with us on the website. We are sure that this website will go a long way in guiding tourists, both domestic and international,” Awasthi added.
