Sweet Memory

Over and above the monuments and malls, the politics and parks, visitors to Lucknow have mostly recalled their experience with its people.

Over and above the monuments and malls, the politics and parks, visitors to Lucknow have mostly recalled their experience with its people. Television actor Amit Jain cherishes most his ‘sweet’ association with the city. “I was there to visit a friend and had to catch the night train to Delhi, before which I made a dash to Ram Asrey’s shop in Chowk to buy ‘malai ka paan’ my father told me to bring along. The last of the sweet had been sold out to a gentleman, who overheard me say that I was going to Delhi. He turned to me and let me collect the sweets saying he was in Lucknow and could buy it anytime. I have never seen such generous, hospitable and affectionate people in any other city,” says Amit, who has entered the immensely popular among youth series on Star One,Miley Jab Hum Tum.

“My family has moved to Greater Kailash now,but I grew up in Chandni Chowk,Delhi…Delhi 6,rather. Lucknow seemed so familiar. Though Mumbai is my base now,I am an absolute North Indian at heart,” says the actor, who made a mark in a number of serials like Yeh Meri Life Hai and the recently ended Basera playing characters of various shades negative and positive.

“I have entered Miley Jab Hum Tum as a film director who is on the lookout for a new face and here he runs into his long lost childhood friend. It feels great to be in a unit where everyone is so chilled out it shows in the series. I have surrendered myself to director Maan and am doing it just the way he wants me to play the part,” says Amit, whose dream roles are of Raj Kapoor in Mera Naam Joker and Pran in Zanjeer.

“I can die to play these roles!”
