Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Friday claimed that the state’s gross domestic product (GDP) grew by 20 per cent in 2021-22 compared to the financial year 2020-21.

Reviewing the working of the state Planning Department, the CM laid emphasis on sector-wise growth and directed the officials to explore opportunities in the state’s Bundelkhand and Purvanchal regions.

A government spokesperson said the gross state domestic product (GSDP) in 2021-22 was Rs 19.74 lakh crore against Rs 16.45 lakh crore in 2020-21. For 2022-23, the government’s estimated GDP is Rs 21.91 lakh crore, he added.

Stressing the need to explore possibilities by engaging universities and technical institutions, the CM said, “A comprehensive study should be conducted on where and which sectors require efforts, and what kind of assistance should be provided.

The study report should be compiled by the Planning Department and used accordingly to incorporate it in the action plan.”

The allocation of funds for the development of Bundelkhand and Purvanchal should be done based on their long-term and multi-dimensional development needs considering the local requirements, Adityanath said.

Citing information from the Niti Aayog’s Champions of Change platform as of May 2023, it was claimed during the meeting that UP has six of the country’s 10 top-performing districts. It was also pointed out that in the sector-specific areas of health and nutrition, UP has five districts among the top 10 in the country.

The CM asked officials to ensure that awareness is spread among the general public about the family ID programme to connect at least one member of every family with employment opportunities. It was informed during the meeting that 41,440 Family IDs have already been issued so far against 98,046 applications.

Directions were also issued to ensure that the family welfare E-passbook is made so that welfare schemes provided to the families can be integrated.

Besides, the Chief Minister directed to appoint “qualified experts” on important positions in the State Transformation Commission for long-term planning and that the Commission should be made functional as soon as possible.
