State Games from today

The UP State Games will be held at Lucknow from January 22. On day-one,competitions in boxing,wrestling,netball,sepak takraw will be organised. Teams from various districts had started arriving in the state capital on Friday.

Secretary general UP Olympic Association (UPOA) Anandeshwar Pandey informed that in boxing teams from Meerut,Moradabad and Ghaziabad; in netball,teams from Varanasi,Allahabad,Ghaziabad and Gautam Budh Nagar; in sepak takraw teams from Bareilly,Rampur and Baghpat and in wrestling,teams from Meerut,Varanasi,Baghpat and Muzaffarnagar had arrived by Friday evening. The Lucknow netball girls team could be seen practising at the KD Singh ‘Babu’ Stadium.

On the basis of the performance in the State Games,the state team probables in various games for the National Games will be announced and preparatory camps will be held. Competitions are being organised generally in those sports in which the UP teams will be taking part at the National Games. The National Games will be held at Jharkhand from February 12 to 26.

The opening ceremony of the State Games will be held at 3.15 pm on Saturday at KD Singh ‘Babu’ Stadium,Lucknow. A demonstration match in sepak takraw will be organised during the opening ceremony.
