For a city enamoured by Bollywood,this was waiting to happen. Come January,and Mumbai’s picturesque Bandstand in Bandra will get a walkway inspired by Los Angeles’ Hollywood Walk of Fame. “It will be called the Bollywood Walk of Fame,” says Nikhil Gandhi,business head,UTV Stars. The concept was first discussed almost six months ago,a little before the UTV Stars channel went on air. “We pride in calling ourselves the official channel of Bollywood. Hence,we wanted to do something to further the cause,” says Gandhi,who has sought permissions from the Bandra Bandstand Residents’ Organisation for the project.

The Walk of Fame will showcase hand imprints of popular Bollywood stars on brass plates which will then be tiled on the promenade at the Bandstand. “We have so far shortlisted 60 Bollywood names for next year,whose imprints will be tiled. But it will be an ongoing process and,over the years,new tiles will be added.” However,they are yet to finalise a superstar who will kick-start the process. Gandhi is also hopeful that this “free to public” site will soon be topping the tourist destination list.
