SP MLA booked after suicide bid by realtor

Samajwadi Party MLA from Kanpur Satish Kumar Nigam was Saturday booked for allegedly abetting the suicide bid of a party worker by pressurising him to sell his plot in Kanpur district.

Samajwadi Party MLA from Kanpur Satish Kumar Nigam was Saturday booked for allegedly abetting the suicide bid of a party worker by pressurising him to sell his plot in Kanpur district.

The victim — Manish Bhasin — a resident of Naubasta area of Kanpur and a property dealer tried to commit suicide by drinking floor cleaner Wednesday.

An FIR under IPC section 306 (abetment of suicide) and 511(attempting to commit offences punishable with imprisonment for life or other imprisonment) was registered at Naubasta police station against Nigam, who represents Kalyanpur constituency.

The FIR was registered based on a complaint filed by Bhasin’s wife Riddhi, who alleged Nigam pressurised Bhasin to sell his plot in Transport Nagar area to him for a paltry sum.

She alleged the MLA also threatened her husband, following which he tried to commit suicide.

Nigam refuted the allegations, saying he had given money to Bhasin for getting a flat in his construction project, but he failed to get the project completed.

“When Kanpur Development Authority seized the project,I asked him to return my money. He then asked his father for money but his father declined to help him, following which he took the drastic step. His family is now diverting the allegations at me,” Nigam said.
