Seven more die as heavy rains lash state

Heavy rains in Uttar Pradesh have claimed seven more lives even as the flood situation continued to remain grim at a number of places.

Heavy rains in Uttar Pradesh have claimed seven more lives even as the flood situation continued to remain grim at a number of places. While five persons drowned in Farukhabad,two died due to a wall collapse in Sitapur district.

According to the Central Water Commission report,Ganga is flowing at the danger level in Fafamau and Chatnag in Allahabad,Mirzapur,Varanasi and Ghazipur. The river is also flowing almost at the danger mark at Gumtia (Kannauj),Ankinghat at Kanpur Dehat and Kanpur. While Ramganga is rising in Moradabad and Bareilly,Yamuna is rising in Etawah and Auraiya. Gomti is also rising in Sultanur and Jaunpur. River Ghagara was above the danger mark at Elgin Bridge in Barabanki,Ayodhya and Turtipar in Ballia. Bani and Lucknow received maximum 74.4 mm rainfall in the last few hours.

Meanwhile,with the water level in the Ganga continuing to rise in Garhmukteshwar district,a dozen villages situated near the bank of the river have been issued a fresh flood alert. The villages included Dehra,Lathira,Kakather,Ganga Nagar,and low-lying agricultural fields in the region,said Sub-Divisional Magistrate S K Maurya.
