Seagram region head held for ‘dowry death’

Family was booked on the complaint of Nivedita’s father Sidhnath Rai,an ex-legislator from Bihar.

Police on Sunday arrested Manoj Rai,regional head of alcoholic beverages distiller Seagram Company Limited,and his father Markandey Rai for allegedly killing his wife Nivedita after she failed to provide dowry.

An FIR has been lodged against Rai,his father,mother Indu Rai,uncle Akhilesh Rai and sister Ekta for allegedly demanding Rs 25 lakh as dowry from Nivedita’s parents and later killing for not being able to give the dowry.

The family was booked on the complaint of Nivedita’s father Sidhnath Rai,an ex-legislator from Bihar. Manoj and Nivedita were married in 2005 and have a six-year-old son.

Vibhuti Khand station officer Sudhir Kumar said police arrested Rai and his father and they were sent to jail. He said Nivedita’s body had been sent for post-mortem but the report was awaited.

Nivedita died at Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital on Saturday morning,police said.
