The police reached the spot soon after the villagers informed them and doused the fire. But by then, all that remained of the victims was their legs.

Budaun SSP D K Chaudhary said that the police were searching for the accused, who alone could reveal how and why he had murdered the old couple. Chaudhary said that the bodies of Ram Chandra Sharma,65,and his wife Brahma Devi,60,were still burning when the police rushed to Simiria village around 5 am.

The couple’s only son Naresh Sharma, who is handicapped, was missing from the house along with his wife and six children. The villagers had, however, seen the old couple’s bodies set on fire.

It was revealed that Ram Chandra Sharma had recently sold 4 bighas of land and Naresh was demanding a share of the money. Since the old man did not comply,Naresh killed his parents, the SSP said.
