Sangh slams Akhilesh govt

A day after the UP government denied permission to the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) to organise its ‘84 kos parikrama’ around Ayodhya, the RSS Tuesday slammed the Akhilesh Yadav government for its decision and maintained that the saints were well within their rights to organise such religious yatras.

In a tweet,RSS leader Ram Madhav said the UP government’s decision was “unfortunate” and “an assault” on the fundamental right to religion of Hindus. “This (denial of permission) is like trampling the basic rights of Hindus because parikrama is a sacred religious activity of Hindus. If saints want to continue, the state should not come in their way,” Madhav said.

Govt set to seal six districts

LUCKNOW: THE UP government Tuesday said if VHP continues with its plan of ‘Chaurasi Kosi Yatra’ despite denial of permission,it may seal boundaries of the six districts through which the pilgrimage is proposed, besides making arrangements to stop people from reaching Ayodhya. IG (Law and Order) R K Vishwakarma said a tight vigil will be maintained in Faizabad,Basti,Barabanki,Gonda,Bahraich and Ambedkar Nagar, and people including saints and seers, will be prevented from reaching Ayodhya.

No complaints,says azam

About his Monday statement that SP president Mulayam Singh Yadav’s meeting with a VHP delegation led by Ashok Singhal has sent out a wrong message to Muslims,Azam Khan said he had no complaints. “It was a thing of yesterday and let it remain there. I have no complaints as my relations with Mulayam have no space for contradictions. But it is my responsibility to give suggestions, bring certain issues to the notice of leadership,” he said. On the ‘84-kosi parikrama’ announced by the VHP,Khan said it was the decision of the “secular” state government and the CM to disallow the yatra. “These (VHP) people want to implement their agenda before the 2014 Lok Sabha elections. The government will do its own work. If they are true saints, they should spread peace and love instead of hatred.”

Shivpal yadav defends ban on yatra

PWD Minister Shivpal Yadav Tuesday defended the state government’s decision to disallow the “84-kosi parikrama” of the VHP. “Our government is committed to not allowing any such new tradition. This parikarma is a new affair and it has not been allowed,” he said.

“We will not tolerate communalism at any cost. We want peace and happiness to prevail in the state. For this, the SP government has unveiled a development agenda. But some (VHP) people are creating hindrances in the development of the state. Their designs will never succeed,” Shivpal stated.

He said SP president Mulayam Singh Yadav had not given any assurance to the VHP delegation that met him in Lucknow in the presence of Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav on Saturday.

“They came to meet us. It is a democracy and anyone can come to meet. But Mulayam Singh told them in clear terms that no such new tradition will be allowed. They presented their views and Mulayam rejected it. There is nothing hidden in it,” Shivpal stated.

He also denied that Minorities Welfare Minister Azam Khan is angry with Mulayam over his meeting with VHP leader Ashok Singhal. “You can go and ask Azam bhai about this. I think there is no reason for him to get angry. We have clarified we will not tolerate communalism and we stand by it,” Shivpal said.
