Saudi Arabian airlines staff kept over 280 passengers confined for over three hours in an aircraft that finally aborted take off after its one engine failed at Chaudhary Charan Singh (Amausi) airport in Lucknow on Friday.
The panic-stricken passengers got off the plane only when they protested and started quizzing the airline staff about delay in take-off. The passengers had to further wait at the airport for four more hours before they were accommodated in hotels later in the evening.
According to reports,a Riyadh-bound Saudi Arabian airlines flight SV 0887 was scheduled to take off from Amausi airport at 9.35 am. But as the aircraft started moving towards runway,it stopped suddenly with a jerk. The airline staff told us that there was a minor technical problem and the flight will take off very soon, said a passenger,who has been accommodated at a hotel in Husainganj area.
At 12 noon,the airline staff served food to passengers in the aircraft. We were deplaned around 1 pm and told that one engine of the aircraft had technical snag, said another passenger.
Airport director Atul Dixit said,The aircraft did not take off today. It is still grounded but the exact reason for the cancellation of the flight could be told only by the airline authorities.
While the airline manager at airport was not available for comments,other staff members refused to say when the flight will take off.
