Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi would be on a one-day tour to his parliamentary constituency,Amethi, and Lucknow on June 13. While his detailed programme for the visit to Amethi has been finalised, sources in the party say he is likely to visit the state Congress committee (UPCC) office in Lucknow in the second half of the day to meet the newly appointed zonal in-charges.
While his visit to Amethi would come after a gap of about three months, his visit to the UPCC office would be for the first time after the Assembly elections. He had held a meeting of Congress candidates and party workers at the office in December 2011 to motivate them for the Assembly elections.
We have got his programme for the Amethi visit, where he would be participating in a function of a postal department at Shukl Bazaar and would later meet party workers at Munshiganj guest house. However, after 2pm,he is likely to move back to Lucknow to hold some a meeting but that programme is yet to arrive, informed a party worker.
Sources in the party inform that Gandhi has been upset with the delay in re-organisation of the district and city units of the party across the state and his meeting in Lucknow is likely to come as a surprise to even zonal in-charges and the state committee. After the removal of previously appointed zonal presidents following their failure to complete the re-organisation,the party had given a June 10 deadline to the newly appointed zonal in-charges to complete all the formalities. Congress state president Nirmal Khatri has also called a meeting on June 13 to discuss the final list of panel of names for district and city presidents in each zone.
His (Rahul Gandhi) tours are being delayed due to the pending re-organisation. Previous zonal presidents could not follow the deadlines and then these new zonal in-charges were given June 10 as the deadline to finalise everything. His office has indicated that he might review the lists prepared by the zonal in-charges in Lucknow, a senior party leader said. Sources in the party inform that he is likely to start his tour across the state in the last week of June and has, thus, asked everyone to complete re-organisation as soon as possible.
