Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday visited his parliamentary constituency Rae Bareli to meet the family of a 22-year-old Dalit youth who was recently killed allegedly by a group of men over a monetary dispute.

“A family has been threatened. A Dalit youth has been killed… No action has been taken by the administration here. No action has been taken against the mastermind by the police.

They are arresting small people. That is why people are angry here. I want every section of the society to be respected in Uttar Pradesh, and this is why I have come here,” Rahul told mediapersons after meeting the family of Arjun Pasi at Bhuvalpur Sisni village.

Arjun Pasi was allegedly killed after a quarrel over the money owed by the accused to his brother, who is a barber. “I spoke with the family, and talked to his mother. She said her younger son cuts hair. The youth came to him six or seven times and got his hair cut but did not pay. When he insisted on payment, his brother was killed,” Rahul said.

“Clearly, injustice has been done against the family, against the community. This will have to be rectified. There is no choice, they will have to rectify it and the family will get justice,” the Congress MP added.

When asked what punishment the accused should get, Rahul said, “This is the court’s job, not mine. But my job is to make sure the law is enforced, to put pressure on it. I am not going to back out. It is a Dalit family, that is why it is happening.”

Rahul will be visiting Prayagraj on Saturday to address “Samvidhan Samman Sammelan”. Urging “Nyaya Yodhya” to attend the event, he in a post on X wrote: “We will protect the Constitution and the reservation system at all costs. We will foil conspiracies like BJP’s ‘lateral entry’ at any cost. I am saying it again — by breaking the 50 per cent reservation
limit, we will ensure social justice on the basis of caste-based census.”

Announcing the holding of “Samvidhan Samman Sammelan” at Allahabad Medical Association Convention Centre in Prayagraj, Rahul wrote, “Our Constitution is the basis of our rights and is our identity… It is a call to all the Nayay Yodhyas to associate with the convention.”

Rahul wrote that the convention is to ensure the participation of the deprived, for holding caste-based census so that every section gets lawful participation and for progressive India. Samvidhan ki raksha aur samman mein apna yogdan dein” wrote Rahul.
