Professional Golf Tour of India (PGTI) is all set to make its debut in Lucknow with the staging of the sixth event of its Feeder Tour for 2011. The PGTI Feeder Tour event will be held at the Lucknow Golf Club from August 9 to 11. The tournament carries a total prize purse of Rs. 6 lakh.
The tournament will have a field of 69 players and will be played over three rounds of 18 holes each with the cut being applied after 36 holes. Former Indian Open champion Vijay Kumar will lead the local challenge along with the other top professionals from Lucknow such as Sanjay Kumar,Rajesh Kumar Rawat,Bhoop Singh,Jumman,Manoj Kumar and Sanjeev Kumar. Rashid Khan,one of Indias rising stars,will also play in the event.
Sudhir Kapoor,captain,Lucknow Golf Club,said,The course is in great shape and we expect to witness some exciting golf this week. We are confident that our partnership with the PGTI will help in accelerating the growth of the sport in Lucknow. Professional golf has returned to Lucknow after a gap of five years as a result of the joint efforts of the PGTI and the Lucknow Golf Club.
Assistant manager-media,PGTI,Nikhil Kalaan said that the PGTI Feeder Tour event at Lucknow has enabled PGTI to add yet another new destination to its schedule. After this tournament,more such tournaments could be expected at Lucknow in future. The tee-off of the tournament will take place at 7.00 am on Tuesday.
Rajesh confident
Rajesh Kumar Rawat of Lucknow who is placed second in the 2011-PGTI Feeder Tour Order of Merit after the fifth event (held at Patna) of the Feeder Tour,sounded confident about performing well on home turf. Arjun Singh Chaudhri of Noida is placed first in the Order of Merit. Rajesh who is a caddie-turned-pro said I won in the event held at Jaipur and was joint runner in the one held at Patna. Now I will be going all out to win this event.
Rajesh confided that Lucknow Golf Club gives financial support to caddies for participating in tournaments which has been very encouraging for them.
