The two-member committee,probing the deaths of blackbucks at Lucknow zoo in the last one week,Saturday sought a weeks time to submit its report. As many as 16 blackbucks have died since September 7 due to a lung infection. The cause of which,however,is unknown.

Wednesday,the state government had formed the probe committee consisting of Ashwani Kumar,Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (Training and Research) and J K Pandey,senior veterinary doctor,and asked them to submit their report about the cause for the deaths in two days.

Kumar said he has requested the government to provide the committee a weeks time to complete the probe and prepare its report.

We have collected documents from the zoo and Forest department,which are being studied. We require more time as we are also supposed to provide suggestions to avert such incidents in future, said Kumar.

The committee is also awaiting report from Bareilly-based Indian Veterinary Research Institute (IVRI),which is conducting pathological tests on the dead blackbucks to find out the reason for spread of infection.

Once we get the IVRI report,we will be able to understand reasons for the deaths. I hope the report comes next week, Kumar said.

Meanwhile,no blackbuck deaths have been reported Saturday. Zoo director Renu Singh said no blackbuck died Saturday and officials are providing precautionary treatment to the remaining antelopes.
