An official release from the state information department said that Bhavnagar DM issued a notification prohibiting the movement of heavy vehicles on the road that links Bhavnagar-Dholera highway to Bhavnagar-Barwala highway, cutting through the national park area.
Zoo officials said that a watchman, who reported for work at 7 am, heard dogs barking, and on reaching the enclosure of the blackbucks he found three dogs there. He alerted other watchmen who shooed the dogs away.
The blackbuck belongs to the antelope family and is listed under Schedule 1 of the Wildlife Protection Act, 1972. Hunting and poaching blackbucks is a non-bailable offence and can invite a jail term of up to six years.
