Pradeep Kumar Jain
Elected from Jhansi constituency in Bundelkhand,47-year-old Jain is not only a first-timer in the Union ministry but a first-time MP as well. Before becoming a MP,he was the sitting MLA from Jhansi Assembly constituency. Sources in the UPCC said Jain is regarded as a diligent worker,who has worked hard to revive the party in the Bundelkhand region. Since Bundelkhand is said to be close to Rahul Gandhis heart and Jain is regarded as one of the younger lot,he fits in Gandhis vision for 2012
Assembly election in Uttar Pradesh. His name comes as a surprise. But the fact that he comes from Bundelkhand explains it all. It will certainly give a boost to the region. He is regarded as a grassroot-level worker in the party, said a senior UPCC leader.
Forty-five-year-old Singh is regarded as another young face from the state. In the early 1990s,he was the state Youth Congress president. Before being elected as the MP from Khushinagar,Singh was the three-time sitting MLA from Padrauna Assembly constituency. His father C P N Singh was the Raja of Padrauna,a senior Congress leader and a Central minister during the Indira Gandhi regime. Singh represents the influential Kurmi population in Uttar Pradesh. Apart from him,Beni Prasad Verma,a SP rebel,was the only Kurmi leader to have won this election from the state. Though Verma was expected to get a berth in the Central ministry,it is said that as Singh came from a background of Congress loyalists,he was given preference by the party high command.

Salman Khurshid
He was long expected to be in the Central ministry as a minority representative from Uttar Pradesh. Though,being one of the senior leaders of the Congress from the state,he was expected to get a Cabinet post in the Manmohan Singh government. Apart from being the president of the UPCC twice,Khurshid has previously served as the Minister of State for External Affairs during 1991 to 1996. Very few know he is the grandson of former President of India,Zakir Hussain. Khurshid and has also served in the Prime Ministers Office during Indira Gandhis regime as an Officer on Special Duty. In 1991,he was elected as the MP from Farrukhabad. He was one of the two Muslim candidates to have won this election on a Congress ticket from Uttar Pradesh. He was also in the news recently for contesting for the presidents post of the India Islamic Cultural Centre. He,however,lost.
Shriprakash Jaiswal
He has been elected for the third time from the Kanpur constituency. He was first elected in 1999 and then in 2004. In the previous government,he was the Union Minister of State for Home. It was expected that he would also get a Cabinet berth. He was the Mayor of Kanpur during 1989-1992 and also served as the UPCC president from 2000 to 2002.
Jitin Prasada
He is the only Congress candidate from Uttar Pradesh under 35 years in age. In the previous Lok Sabha elections,he had won from Shahjahanpur. Due to delimitation,his constituency became reserved and he had to shift to Dhaurara,a newly-formed constituency. He won this election by a record margin of over 1.84 lakh votes. In the previous UPA government,he was the Minister of State for Steel. He is the son of veteran Congress leader Jitendra Prasad.
