Manyu Any boys in India from 4 to 14 years of age are game for a stint on the stove.
“In response to a survey we conducted most kids said boys and girls should participate equally in cooking…and the larger number of these respondents were boys,” said Krishna Desai,Director Programming for Turner International India.
“A good many of the boys want to be chefs when they grow up,” he beamed.
In town to promote Chowder,a new show on Cartoon Network,Desai said,”We discovered that most children in India were experimental to the extent of dishing out their own stuff. They were open to trying out new cuisines, though everyday roti-dal-rice remained the staple favourites.”
The survey,he said, was the channel’s bid to get into the minds of their target audience.
“Besides,it was relevant in context of the new show,in which the protagonist Chowder forces himself on a reluctant chef for apprenticeship. He messes up everything in the kitchen though at the end of every episode the result is palatable,” said Desai, clearing the air on Indianisation of all the shows with: “It is to maximise viewership that we dub all our shows in Hindi. But DTH users have the option of seeing the original English version too.”
