The Uttar Pradesh Special Task Force arrested an alleged Naxalite,Rajendra Munda, from Gorakhpur’s Cantonment area on Sunday.

Munda had come to meet his sister Asha — who was arrested on February 6 and is lodged in Gorakhpur jail, said a senior police officer.

Asha is a member of the CPI (Maoist) Central Mahila Sub-Committee. Her husband Balraj, reportedly a member of CPI (Maoist) Central Committee, was arrested from Kanpur on February 8,added the officer.

Munda is also a member of CPI (Maoist) and had attended two meetings of the organisation in Kanpur and Delhi in 2009. He had been staying in a rented house in Kanpur for the last one-and-a-half years, said the officer.

“He has admitted that his house in Kanpur was used as a safe hideout by his sister and brother-in-law. At this point in time,I cannot say anything on which committee he was a member of and what was his position. The questioning is on,” said STF SP Naveen Arora.

The STF team has also seized banned Naxal literature from Munda, added the officer.
