Amit Lall is actually driving home his message for peace and unity across country

For Amit Lall,criss-crossing the country is not a journey moved by wanderlust. “My mother took the last train that left Mumbai Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus just 15 minutes before all hell broke loose on 26/11. I live between the Taj and Oberoi hotels and can still hear the echo of the gunshots that took the life of my friends,” says Lall, who got at the wheels to reach out to countrymen.

“The tragedy made me realise that it was time to reflect on the way we are governed,” says the Mumbai-based businessman who started on his mission against terrorism and corruption on the Republic Day from the Gateway of India.

“I plan to cover 26 states,an approximate distance of 15,000 km before the journey culminating in Mumbai,” says Lall, who arrived in Lucknow on Saturday. “Like I have been doing everywhere,I urge residents of Lucknow to stay together and fight against terror,” Lall reads out his message as he poses with his Hyundai Ascent car.

Having already covered 15 states, including Nagaland,in his 74-day drive,Lall claims he has been to Goa,Mangalore,Karwar,Kochi,Kovalam,Kanyakumari,Madurai,Pondicherry,Chennai,Punjab and Bihar.

Besides support from sponsors like The Taj group of hotels and Hyundai Motors, what else keeps him driving? “The adulation I receive is overwhelming. People are attracted to the posters and stickers with social messages and quotes tagged on my car. They listen to me and give me a thumbs-up,” he beams.

So,what when all the motoring is over?

“I plan to form a ‘united force’ of like-minded Indians and work for peace, harmony and unity of the people,” says Lall.

From Lucknow,Lall will move towards Delhi from where he plans to visit Kargil and other bordering areas.

“I wish to interact with armed personnel who are guarding the borders and people residing there,” he says.
