Expressing concern over the huge backlog of pending cases in courts,Chief Justice of Allahabad High Court F I Rebello today emphasised the need of setting up more courts and appointing more judges to speed up disposal of cases.

While addressing a seminar organised by the Civil Court Bar Association here,Justice Rebello said evening courts could help in clearing the huge backlog of cases. He expressed concerns over the opposition of different bar associations on this issue.

Referring the report of Justices Sharma and Reddy over the issue of pending cases,he said both have suggested in their report to build 8,000 more courts in the country.

“They have also emphasised in the report the need to appoint 160 judges in Uttar Pradesh as new districts have been formed in the past one decade. Presently there are only 60 judges in the state,” he said.
