Maya drills in the importance of model code

Chief Minister Mayawati has asked her party candidates to strictly follow the model code of conduct during the election campaign.

Chief Minister Mayawati has asked her party candidates to strictly follow the model code of conduct during the election campaign.

She has also asked party coordinators, who enjoy the status of minister of state,to park their vehicles at their offices until the elections are over.

On Friday,Mayawati, who is also the national president of the Bahujan Samaj Party, called a meeting of her party’s candidates to explain the importance of adhering to the model code.

Party coordinators, who are to oversee the organisational work in different parts of the state, were also present.

“She was very particular about compliance with model code,” said one of the candidates. “She asked the candidates not to carry publicity materials in their vehicles. The coordinators were told to park government vehicles at their offices so their sons or other family members do not use these in their absence.”

In all probability, this was Mayawati’s last meeting with the candidates before the polls.

“After tomorrow, she will be very busy. She is the star campaigner of the party,” a party leader said.
