Rashtriya Ulema Council (RUC) chief Amir Rashadi on Saturday accused Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav of not being serious about “releasing innocent Muslims” jailed on terror charges.

Rashtriya Ulema Council (RUC) chief Amir Rashadi on Saturday accused Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav of not being serious about “releasing innocent Muslims” jailed on terror charges.

Addressing his supporters on the concluding day of their five-day dharna in Lucknow,Rashadi reminded the Chief Minister about his “promise” of releasing Tariq Qasmi and Khalid Mujahid, accused for the 2007 serial court blasts in Lucknow and Faizabad, saying he should stop playing drama as the Samajwadi Party exploited the issue during for votes.

“We never demanded that the government should release them. It is the SP that made it a poll plank. Our demand is to make the Nimesh Commission report public,” Rashadi said.

Nimesh Commission was formed in March 2008 to probe into the arrests of Tariq and Khalid. Their family had alleged that Tariq was picked up by the police from Azamgarh on December 12,2007 while Khalid from Jaunpur on December 16,but were later shown as arrested from Barabanki on December 22. Nimesh Commission submitted its report in September this year.

The Azamgarh-based RUC was formed by Amir Rashadi after 2008 Batla House encounter in Delhi.
