The Chief Minister was never tired of criticising the Centre sponsored National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme.

Maya “twist”
The Chief Minister was never tired of criticising the Centre sponsored National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme. But lately, the advertisements of NREGA helpline, all placed by state agencies, have started carrying photos of Mayawati and her slogan “Sarvjan Hitay,Sarvjan Sukhay”.
Sources say that party workers and bureaucrats close to the regime told Mayawati that NREGA was one of the factors behind Congress success in the Lok Sabha election. So,instead of criticising it,why not take credit for its implementation?

Chacha Amar
What is the biggest challenge before Akhilesh Yadav, state president of the Samajwadi Party who took over on June 1? Winning the by-elections to 14 Assembly seats? Strengthening the organisation and gear up for the 2012 Assembly elections? Fighting the tyrannical Bahujan Samaj Party government, which has allegedly booked many partymen in false cases? It is none of these. According to party insiders,“Chachalog” is the biggest issue before the youthful state president. The two uncles,Shivpal Singh Yadav and Ram Gopal Yadav, and their cronies are said to be the biggest hurdle for Akhilesh. Soon after taking over,Akhilesh had promised that he will constitute the state executive within June. Close to two months, the state executive is yet to be formed. Now party workers say that it is the third “Chacha” who knows how to deal with the other two. But this Chacha is in Singapore, convalescing after a kidney transplant. Akhilesh reportedly visited him in Singapore last week to seek the guru mantra. Sources say that he has been advised to wait till Chacha Amar Singh returns.

BJP’s letter fixation
First,it was the BJP central leadership which faced embarrassment after letters from senior leaders were leaked to the media. Now,it is the state BJP unit. Legislature party leader Om Prakash Singh, who was once considered senior to Rajnath Singh, circulated a letter to the state executive members, giving details of the caste profile of the district office-bearers and the conveners of various party cells. The letter read that in eastern UP,most of the district presidents were from upper castes. He raised the question that what measures had been taken to promote OBCs and other weaker sections in the organisation. Anil Tewari,a former minister from Faizabad, questioned the timing and purpose of the letter. He accused Singh of maligning the party by circulating the letter ahead of the two-day state executive meet, which began on Saturday. Singh tried to defend himself, saying it was a personal letter addressed to the executive members and that he was not pushing any personal agenda. Later, party general secretary Arun Jaitely advised the state leaders to refrain from shooting letters and instead raise all issues at party forums.

Non-cooperation
The team of CB-CID,which is tasked to investigate the arson at Rita Bahuguna Joshi’s residence, seems to have hit the wall. Nobody involved in the case is cooperating with them — right from the people who were inside the house,to Joshi herself,to the guards who were deployed near Yojna Bhawan. The investigators are now banking on the video footage shot by a TV channel and have sent a request for it. The video may or may not help. What worries the team further is the political nature of the case. The slightest error, even unintentional, can land them in trouble. Also, the reality may not be palatable to people who matter. Already, the BSP has passed the judgment that the house was not set afire by BSP men.
