LU students union poll on Oct 15

The Lucknow University (LU) has finalised the date of students union elections as October 15 and nominations on October 6,returning officer Narendra Kumar Pandey informed here today. The decision was taken following a meeting of senior LU officials, including the vice-chancellor,the pro vice-chancellor and the registrar,in the evening.

“We have asked the district administration for its consent on the dates,” Pandey said. Earlier, the university had proposed October 18,19 and 20 for holding the students’ union polls and October 10/11 as the dates for initiating the election process. “However,we received communication from the district administration stating their difficulty in coordinating for those dates, mainly due to Durga Puja, which will begin around October 19 and go on for the next few days. Hence the new dates were proposed and the DM’s response is now awaited,” Pandey said. “We are confident that these dates would be accepted,” he said.

This also means that the administration will have to speed up the distribution of Identity (ID) cards to the students in order to create the voter list. “For first-year students,ID cards are issued during their admission process itself. For second- and third-year students,7,000 ID cards have been distributed while about 3,000 are left, which will be distributed soon,” Pandey said.
