On completing his first year in office on Friday,Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav expressed concern over the law and order situation in the state and said there can be no compromise on this front.

“We are very concerned about the law and order problem. We understand that all our achievements are overshadowed by just one incident. We are continuously working on this front,” Akhilesh said.

He admitted there is room for improvement in the police force. “We need to reduce their reaction time. We are considering fixing GPS systems on their vehicles,” Akhilesh said.

He said that after taking over as CM,he had called up the police control room on the number 100 but there was no response. “The service had been outsourced and was defunct due to pending dues. We are now setting up a modern control room,” he said.

On the communal riots in the past year,Akhilesh said the government had taken prompt action and culprits had been rounded up. “You can check that the accused who have been rounded up belong to a particular political party. It happened in Faizabad and Ambedkar Nagar,” he said.

The CM said his party was committed to the welfare of Muslims. “We are implementing the recommendations of the Sachar Committee and Rangnath Mishra Commission which are related to state,” he said.

As for the Samajwadi Party’s promise of giving 18 per cent reservation to Muslims,he said,“We will find a way so that there is no constitutional hindrance. We will give this facility to Muslims.” He said that innocent Muslims implicated in fake cases will be released.
