LACCFED scam: 2 engineers held

The special investigation bureau (SIB) of the co-operative cell today arrested two executive engineers of Labour and Construction Co-operative Federation (LACCFED) for allegedly siphoning off government funds meant for construction work under the Backward Regions Grant Fund (BRGF) scheme during 2010-2011.

One of the main accused in the LACCFED scam cases – Praveen Singh,who was public relations officer (PRO) in the department — today surrendered before a local court. He had sought interim bail from the court of the district judge,but it was rejected and he was sent to jail. Co-operative cell director-general Suvrat Tripathi confirmed the arrest of two engineers and surrender of the former PRO. Executive engineers Ajay Kumar Dohre and Sanjay Kumar Vaishya were arrested after they failed to produce bills or any other documents related to the government funds handed over to them. The official also said Dohre was issued cheques of over Rs 1.86 crore in his name for carrying out construction work under BRGF scheme,but he produced bills showing expenditure of Rs 32 lakh only. Similarly,Vaishya was given cheques of Rs 12 lakh for the work and he got work of Rs 3 lakh done.
