Kidnappers of actor Mushtaq Khan also planned to abduct Shakti Kapoor, say UP cops

(File)One of the five accused arrested by the Meerut and Bijnor police in connection with kidnappings of comedian Sunil Pal and actor Mohammed Mushtaq Khan was shot at in Meerut by cops when he tried to flee from a police jeep while being taken to the hospital for medical check up on Sunday, officers said.
The police claimed that Arjun Karnwal (30) snatched the service weapon of a policeman in the jeep and jumped out of the moving vehicle in Meerut’s Lal kurti locality and tried to flee by opening fire at the police team. The police retaliated and he was injured in the right leg, officers said. “He has been admitted to the hospital under police surveillance,” said Meerut SSP Vipin Tada.
On Saturday evening, the Bijnor police arrested four accused, including a former councillor, Sarthak Chaudhary. They said that they had also planned to kidnap actor Shakti Kapoor, the police claimed.
Five members of the gang who have been identified by the police in two districts, including their leader Lavi Pal Chaudhary, are on the run.
“The arrested persons also claimed that till date, they had kidnapped around ten relatively lesser-known Bollywood actors. They also claimed that all their victims had paid ransom except Mushtaq, who fled from captivity on the morning of November 21,” said Abhishek Jha, SP, Bijnor. —ENS
