In compliance with the directives of the UP Electricity Regulatory Commission,Kanpur Electricity Supply Company (Kesco) has instructed industrialists with a power connection of over 50 KW to install transformers in their units before June 15. Failing this,Kesco has threatened to withdraw their power connections. In addition, the industrialists have to deposit Rs 1.40 lakh as power connection and security charge.
There are currently around 5,000 industries in Kanpur,of which nearly 3,000 have a power connection of over 50 KW. These industrialists will have to set up a transformer and High Tension (HT) switch gear board in their respective units before June 15. The entire process is likely to cost each industrialist nearly Rs 6 lakh.
Kesco AGM S K Verma, however, maintained: We are simply following the guidelines of the UP Electricity Regulatory Commission.
At present, city industrialists having Low Tension (LT) bulk connection are being provided a 440-volt electricity supply. After the installation of transformers, they will be provided with 11,000 volt supply, he said.
Also, these industrialists would not have to pay 15 per cent of the LT line charge every month. In the long run,the transformers will prove monetarily beneficial, he added.
