Kanpur industries get transformer deadline

In response to Kesco’s notice,Indian Industries Association’s (IIA) divisional chairman Sunil Vaishya said: “Kesco has given an extremely short notice to set up transformers in various industrial areas including Panki,Dada Nagar and Fazalganj.” Pointing out that a majority of the industries do not have a mon-thly turnover of over Rs 5 lakh,Vaishya said,“It is not possible for them to arrange the amount on such a short notice.” Vaishya said that an IIA delegation would soon meet Kesco officials and make an appeal to extend the last date for installation of transformers. Provincial Industries Association’s divisional chairman Micky Manchanda said Kesco should have checked the availability of transformers before issuing the notice. “Over the years,Kesco has failed to provide the desired power supply to industrial areas. Instead of increasing the financial burden on industrialists,efforts should be made to improve the electricity supply,” he said.

Kesco AGM S K Verma,however,maintained: “We are simply following the guidelines of the UP Electricity Regulatory Commission.”

At present,city industrialists having Low Tension (LT) bulk connection are being provided a 440-volt electricity supply. “After the installation of transformers,they will be provided with 11,000 volt supply,” he said.

Also,these industrialists would not have to pay 15 per cent of the LT line charge every month. “In the long run,the transformers will prove monetarily beneficial,” he added.
