A 50-year-old head constable with the state police was shot dead by miscreants near Jia Mau crossing,under Hazratganj police circle area,on Sunday evening.
The deceased,Ram Lal,was on a bicycle when miscreants fired at him from behind and escaped. He was taken to the Civil Hospital where doctors declared him dead on arrival.
“We don’t know how miscreants came and escaped. We are also cross-checking why Ram Lal had gone to Jia Mau,” said in-charge of the Hazratganj police station,Parush Ram.
The ADG,meanwhile,added: “It seems the miscreants fled away with one carbine and 200 cartridges that the constable had on him.”

Hotelier held for running over man
The manager of a leading hotel,Anurag Dubey (35),was arrested after his car mowed down an elderly person on early Sunday morning in Hazraratganj area.
The deceased,Buddha (60),was sleeping on the pavement near Parivarthan crossing.
“The medical report of Dubey confirmed that he was drunk,” said Parushram Verma,in-charge of Hazratganj police station.
