Tricolour insult: Police stations put on alert
The DGP Headquarters issued an alert to the police stations of Bahraich and Siddhartha Nagar districts bordering Nepal on Thursday. This after a group of Nepalese Maoists had created a ruckus in the area bordering Bahraich where they scribbled the Tricolour with insulting slogans on Thursday. The IG (Crime) GP Sharma said the SPs of the district have been asked to intensify patrolling and vigil in the bordering police stations.

BJP to protest against inflation
The BJP will launch its two-day statewide protest against inflation and policies of the Central government on January 31. Senior leaders have already been given charge of the districts. Leaders like state president Ramapati Ram Tripathi,MP Lalji Tandon,MLC Vinod Pandey,Mayor Dr Dinesh Sharma and Pankaj Singh will lead the protest in Lucknow on February 1. Among others,while national general secretary Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi will be present at Rampur,senior leader Kalraj Mishra will be take part in the protests in Varanasi.

Week-long LU convocation begins
Lucknow University Vice-Chancellor M K Mishra inaugurated the Convocation Week — January 28 to February 3 — on Thursday. The convocation week,which used to be organised in the university more than four decades ago,was discontinued and reduced to a day affair because of several hurdles including that of law and order situation in LU.

This time,the convocation week will see a number of lectures from eminent academicians across the country,including Anil Kakodkar,former Director of Atomic Energy Commission who will be awarded the Doctorate of Science (Honoris Causa). Other events like cross country race,food festival and kavi sammelan will also be held.
