Jilted in love,man kills SD Degree College student

A man shot a student of SD Degree College dead and left another injured in the Nai Mandi area of Muzaffarnagar district on Saturday morning. Muzaffarnagar SSP Praveen Kumar said: The victim,Neelam,and accused,Bharat Veer,had an alleged affair for two-and-half years after which the girl chose to walk out of the relationship. The youth reached the college around 9.30 am today and following a heated exchange opened fire. Another passerby Jaimala sustained pellet injuries in her leg. The police have picked up a close friend of Bharat who was reportedly accompanying him when the incident took place. The deceaseds father,Ummed Singh,has also named another woman alleging that she was also involved in the conspiracy.

The police would interrogate the girl,the SP said.

Vigilance arrests engineer for graft

The Vigilance Establishment team caught an Assistant Engineer (AE) of the Agra Development Authority (ADA) red handed while allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 1 lakh from a plot owner in Loha Mandi area on Friday night.

Vigilance Deputy SP Haridutt Gautam arrested AE Pratap Prasad Mishra while accepting the money from one R C Sharma. Sharma had to get possession of his plot registered from the ADA,but the department raised objections citing absence of some formalities. The police said that the AE reportedly had demanded the amount assuring Sharma of the possession of the plot. He,however,registered a complaint with the Vigilance and the engineer was arrested.
