Adding another feather to its cap, the Indian Institute of Management-Lucknow (IIM-L) will soon open a campus outside the country.
Confirming the development, IIM-L director Dr Devi Singh said, “We are looking at places in Asia, Africa, Mauritius and others for an overseas campus. We have already done a lot of ground work in this direction.”
While taking over charge as IIM-L Director for a second term in 2009, Dr Singh had said he would like the institution to spread its wings not just in the country, but globally during his second tenure.
Conceptualised in his tenure, the campus may be inaugurated by the successor of Dr Singh, whose tenure ends this September.
Earlier this March, Dr Singh’s tenure was extended by six months or till the appointment of his successor, whichever is earlier.
He was appointed IIM-L Director in 2003, which ended in 2008 and then re-appointed in 2009.
“As I will be leaving in about three months, the person who comes next will take the project forward,” Dr Singh said.

Among IIMs, IIM-Indore was the first to open a campus overseas in Ras Al Khaimah, UAE, 2011. However, due to less number of students, it shifted its base to Dubai in 2014
