A day after Samajwadi Party (SP) leader and PWD Minister Shivpal Yadav warned BSP chief Mayawati to mind her language for calling the SP men goondas, she on Tuesday said that if SP wants her to stop using such words then it must act against the criminals and anti-social elements in their party.
Speaking at a press conference,Mayawati said: Senior ministers have not liked my words. But their real problem is not these words but their own fight for supremacy within their party. Still,if some SP leaders do not like the goonda word, then they should act against such people who are behaving in anarchic ways and put them behind bars which is their right place, she said.
Mayawati said it was with much sadness that she uses these words for the SP,but she knows that SP cannot gather courage to act against the criminals in it.
She said there had been several incidents in the state where instead of transferring persons responsible for an incident, the officers who could act against them were removed. It is because of this situation that in certain matters courts had to interfere for the maintenance of law and order, she claimed.
Upping the ante against the state government,Mayawati said her party urges the Governor and the Centre to impose Presidents rule in UP to avoid further deterioration of law and order in the state. She said her party will keep pressing for the imposition of Presidents rule in the state from now onwards.
Meanwhile, reacting to reports that the Lucknow Development Authority (LDA) had ordered an inquiry into the function organised by the BSP at Ambedkar memorial on the birth anniversary of Dr B R Ambedkar, party general secretary Naseemuddin Siddiqui said the party had taken all necessary clearances and permission from district administration and LDA.
He said it was not a rally but only a function where Mayawati addressed her supporters who had come to visit the memorial like previous years. Siddiqui said he had also sought permission from the district administration for using loudspeakers in advance and there was no violation of rules.
