Author addresses moms-to-be

Against the perception—fueled by movies and stereotypical images—a newborn is not exactly the bundle of joy a mother falls in love with at the first sight. “In fact,it is rather unsightly…wet, wiggly, fuzzy. It is not immediately that a baby becomes the apple of your eye,” says Sangeeta Bhargava, author of Letters to My Baby (Genesis,Rs 295) who spoke about her book, introduced to a motley gathering at MB Club on Tuesday. “My book is a companion for all mothers-to-be,whether their pregnancy is into the third week or 27th,” said Bhargava, explaining how she kept medical jargon out of the text, with “that’s because I am not a doctor!” But the book has useful tips for the expecting women as well as a new mother. “The journey from conception to childbirth and to infantcare is replete with surprises as also anxiety. Through my personal experience I have tried to prepare the first-timers so that they can sail smoothly and cherish motherhood,” said the author, whose book has been read since it was first published in 2007 by not only pregnant women. “I have received an overwhelming response from fathers and grandparents of the babies too!”
