Following the attack on state Congress chief Rita Bahuguna Joshis residence on Wednesday night,Governor T V Rajeswar has sought for a detailed report about the incident from the state government.
Joshis house was allegedly set ablaze by BSP party workers on late Wednesday night. They were protesting against Joshis derogatory remarks against Chief Minister Mayawati. The Lucknow residence of the state Congress chief is located in a high security zone close to the chief ministers office in Sarojini Naidu Marg.
According to sources in Raj Bhawan, the Governor had set no time frame for the state government for submitting the report. The Governor was reportedly unhappy over the general law and order situation prevailing in the state and also the vandalism that took place at Joshis residence.
The report will be submitted in due course of time, said a Home Department official. According to sources, the Union Home Ministry has also asked for a detailed report from the state government on the events that took place in Moradabad and Lucknow.
The state Congress has urged the Governor to take action against the Mayawati government. A party delegation led by former chief minister Ram Naresh Yadav met the Governor and submitted a memorandum, which demanded a probe by the sitting High Court judge in the incident, unconditional release of Joshi and withdrawal of the criminal cases lodged against her.
According to Yadav, since there was a threat to Joshis life, adequate security should be provided to her in the Moradabad jail. He also demanded that security should be enhanced at her Allahabad and Lucknow residence. Security should also be provided at the state party headquarters in Lucknow,as goons of the ruling party could attack anytime, he said. The Congress also alleged the involvement of a BSP legislator in the arson and demanded his arrest.
