Govt reconstitutes state security commission

The UP government on Friday reconstituted the state security commission

The UP government on Friday reconstituted the state security commission,which was first set up by former Chief Minister Mayawati in December 2010 in compliance with a Supreme Court order.

Principal Secretary (Home) R M Srivastava said the commission had been reconstituted with Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav as chairman and the chief secretary,principal secretary (Home) and principal secretary (Law) as its ex-officio members.

Other members of the commission will include cabinet-rank ministers nominated by the Chief Minister and the Leader of the Opposition in the Assembly.

Besides,Srivastava said,the DGP has been made member secretary of the commission while two independent members will be nominated by the state government. The tenure of the non-government members has been fixed at three years.

The Supreme Court had directed the state government to constitute the commission in order to follow certain guidelines related to police reforms while hearing a petition of former UP DGP Prakash Singh. Then chief minister Mayawati had constituted the commission in 2010 and later reconstituted it in February 2011.
