Ghatampur power project inked

The State Power Generation Corporation and Neyveli Lignite Corporation Limited-the mini ratna Central PSU-joined hands to set up a new power project in Uttar Pradesh on Tuesday.

The State Power Generation Corporation and Neyveli Lignite Corporation Limited (NLCL) — the mini ratna Central PSU — joined hands to set up a new power project in Uttar Pradesh on Tuesday. In this regard,a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed to set up a 1,980 MW coal-based power plant at Ghatampur in Ramabai Nagar district (Kanpur Dehat).

To implement the project,a joint venture company (JVC) shall be constituted and incorporated as a private limited firm for the purpose of establishment,operation and maintenance of the project. The NLCL shall have the management control of the JVC and will nominate its CEO. It will hold majority 51 percent stakes and rest will belong to the corporation. The JVC’s board of directors shall be nominated in proportion of equity held by the NLCL and the corporation.

The NLC shall prepare the feasibility report of the project. Estimated to cost around Rs 10,000 crore,the project is scheduled to be completed in five years. It will be financed at a debt/equity ratio of 70:30. The JVC shall identify suitable coal blocks from nearby Singrauli coal fields on the Uttar Pradesh-Madhya Pradesh border or any other nearby coal fields.

State Chief Secretary Atul Gupta,who was present on the occasion,said 2,500 acres of land and 80 cusecs of water from Yamuna will be made available by the state government. “Of the total power generated from the project ,UP’s share will be 75 percent. The share will be subject to regulatory and Union Energy Ministry’s approval,” he added.

Speaking to mediapersons,CMD of NLCL,A R Ansari,said the project will have three units of 660 MW each. These will be set up using super critical technology and efforts will be made enhance capacity to attain the status of a mega power project.

Corporation CMD Navneet Sehgal said: “The project will go a long way in easing power crisis. The Rosa thermal power plant has already started generating 600 MW power,the first unit of 1,320 MW Anpara C thermal power project,too,will start generating 660 MW by next month.”
