Ex-SHO of Kunda Sarvesh Kumar Mishra and Station Officer Hathigawan police station Manoj Kumar Shukla, besides two others, face dismissal from service after an enquiry has found them guilty of escaping from Balipur village in Pratapgarh on the night of March 2,when DSP Ziaul Haque was attacked and killed,Inspector General (Law & Order) R K Vishwakarma said on Monday.
The IG said that Pratapgarh Additional SP (ASP) Asha Ram,who had conducted an enquiry into the role of eight policemen accompanying the CO at Balipur village that night, has submitted his report. Besides dismissal of the then Kunda SHO and Hathigawan SO,he has also recommended dismissal of senior sub-inspector of Kunda Vinay Singh and Ziaul Haques gunner constable Mohammad Imran.
The ASP recommended minor punishment for four constables who accompanied then Hathigawan SO Manoj,as the SO himself did not go to the spot where the mob attacked the DSP,who was circle officer of Kunda.
Vishwakarma said that as recommended by the ASP,four policemen, including the SHO and the SO,will be dismissed from service under provisions of the police rules and manuals.
The ASP had recorded statements of the policemen and the locals to find out if the cops accompanying the CO had escaped from the spot.
The sources said that the ASP came to know that Shukla kept watching the activities from about 200 metres away. When Haque arrived at pradhan Nanhey Yadavs house, along with then Kunda SHO,the SS-I and the gunner,Shukla did not join them.
The mob led by pradhans brother Suersh allegedly manhandled the cops, including Haque, and also attacked them. In an attempt to escape the attack,Haque ran towards the bylane adjacent to pradhans house while Kunda SHO,the SS-I and the gunner took the road in opposite direction. Suresh and others chased the DSP while his fellow policemen managed to escape from the place. Haque was later shot dead.
