A local court in Meerut has ordered the police to lodge an FIR against Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) MLA and former minister Ramveer Upadhyay and his MP wife,Seema, for allegedly ransacking the office of Swami Vivekanand Subharti University and threatening its officials for their daughters admission.
Adviser to the universitys vice-chancellor,Dr Atul Krishna said Upadhyay had contacted him for his daughters admission in MD (Gynaecology) in March but was told she would have to sit for the entrance test.
After that,Upadhyay, his wife and their associates came to the campus on April 3 in my absence. They looked around for me,used foul language, and misbehaved with the officials. They went on to ransack the office despite being told that admission was not possible without the entrance test, said Krishna.
He also said that the universitys security manager,Naresh Kumar, had lodged a complaint but the police did not take any action. Later,Kumar filed an application at a local court, which ordered the police to lodge an FIR under sections of the IPC related to rioting, extortion and criminal intimidation against the MLA,his wife and their unnamed associates.
While Upadhyay was not available for comment, his personal secretary,Ranu, denied the allegations, saying the university officials had demanded Rs 1.5 crore for the admission. Seema has lodged a complaint with the Medical Council of India and the Prime Minister,he said.
