An FIR has been registered after the Food Corporation of India (FCI) reported that rice and wheat worth over Rs 2.5 crore have allegedly gone missing from its godown in Naini. Police said the FIR was registered on Tuesday and investigations are underway.
Superintendent of Police (Trans-Yamuna) Lallan Rai said: A complaint was lodged by FCI Area Manager (Allahabad) B M Raut that rice and wheat grain worth over Rs 2.5 crore have gone missing from Naini godown. It has been alleged that this has been going on for the past some time. It is too premature to mark the period during which the food grains were allegedly siphoned off. The FIR names 12 persons who were employed at various periods at the godown including depot in-charge M A Siddiqui, godown in-charge Kamla Prasad Singh.
Raut said after he took over the charge around eight months ago,he found something suspicious. Since the time I took over,I had been asking for the records of the grain procured and released from the godown. However, the records were not clear and which made me suspicious. Internal inquiries indicated that some employees could be involved in embezzlement following which I got an FIR registered, said Raut. He added that the exact extent of how much food grain had been siphoned off would be established only after the investigation.
Ashok Kumar Shukla,Inspector incharge of Naini police station, where the case has been registered, said that,as per complaint given by FCI official, almost 13,000 Metric Tonnes (MT) rice and 37 MT wheat had gone missing.
The FIR has been registered under Section 409 (criminal breach of trust by a public servant or a banker) of the Indian Penal Code.
