In its first major programme in the state capital ever since Lok Sabha polls last year, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) is all set to take out a march in Lucknow on Tuesday, to be led by party leader Sanjay Singh, to inform the people of Uttar Pradesh about the party’s policies and stance on various issues.
Buoyed by the historical Delhi Assembly election results where it won 67 seats out of 70, party workers here are hoping to test the waters in the UP polls to be held in 2017.
AAP’s National Council member and spokesperson Vaibhav Maheshwari said the idea of the march, titled ‘Swaraj March’, is “to spread awareness among the public about the policies of the party”. “We want to convey to the people that the days of politics of caste and religion are over and that it is time for politics on real issues,” he said.
Singh would begin the march on Tuesday at 12:30 PM from Charbagh, and would pass by KKC College, through Husainganj, Burlington, Vidhan Sabha, and finally halt at the party office on Sapru Marg at around 2:30 PM. Party Awadh zone convenor Avinash Tripathi said people from nearby districts are also likely to participate in the programme, apart from youths, members of business, workers’ unions and women. The party has also issued an appeal to the general public to participate in the march.
“The real issues are women security, crime, law and order, education, health, roads, unemployment, contract labour, corruption and bribery; so, we want to tell the people of Uttar Pradesh that we are committed to addressing these issues,” Vaibhav said.
