One of the “most wanted gangsters” of western Uttar Pradesh, who was the alleged sharpshooter in a triple murder case of 1996,was arrested from a guesthouse in CR Park,Southeast Delhi.

Ravi Prakash, son of a former UP MLA,had been hired by an MCD contractor 16 years ago to eliminate the head of the Personal Point Fitness centre clinic and his two women employees, police said. He had recently come to stay at the guesthouse. He was living alone as his wife and parents had left him because of his illegal activities, police said.

Acting on a tip-off,the special staff team of Southeast Delhi police raided a hotel at CR Park on Saturday and nabbed Prakash. He reportedly told police that he had stepped into the world of crime after murdering an advocate at Civil Lines in Muzaffarnagar.

In 1995,Prakash was arrested for murdering a judicial officer at Bareily in Uttar Pradesh. Thereafter,he had earned notoriety and committed several murders and kidnapping, police said.

According to police,Prakash became notorious as a sharpshooter and he was hired by MCD contractor Subhash Gupta to kill Personal Point Fitness Centre head Sunil Kaul and his two women employees Sujata Shah and Deepa Gupta.

Subhash Gupta had been arrested but Prakash was on the run since then. Gupta had confessed to the police at the time of his arrest that he wanted to marry Kaul’s employee Sujata, but since Kaul opposed the marriage he hired the hitman for the murder.

Kaul’s body was found in Hodal,Faridabad, while the two women were found dead at a field in Muraina,Madhya Pradesh.
