A team of Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) personnel arrested an inspector of the state Excise department on Wednesday for allegedly accepting a bribe.
On a complaint by Sub-Inspector (ACB) Satendra Kumar Mishra,a case under Prevention of Corruption Act was registered against Inspector Kuldip Singh at the Nazirabad police station.
According to the police,one Rajendra Bajpai had recently been allotted a country liquor license in the Bharaimpur area.
Rajendra and his brother Gyanendra alleged that Singh had threatened to get the license of country liquor cancelled if they did not pay him Rs 8,000.
Following their complaint,the ACB had planned an operation to trap Singh.
On Wednesday,Gyanendra went to Singhs residence in Ranjeet Nagar and gave him Rs 8,000, said Deputy Superintendent of Police (ACB) JP Yadav.
The marked currency notes were later recovered from Singh. Singh,however,refuted the charges against him.
On Wednesday,Gyanendra,without any invitation,came to my residence and offered me Rs 8,000, he claimed.
