DMRC told to make changes in Lucknow Metro alignment

The state government has asked the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation to make changes in the alignment of Lucknow Metro at three sites.

The state government has asked the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) to make changes in the alignment of Lucknow Metro at three sites.

In a meeting held on Wednesday, the Lucknow Development Authority (LDA) proposed two changes in the East-West Corridor and one in the North-South Corridor. A team of DMRC officials, headed by General Manager (Consultancy) S D Sharma, was in Lucknow to discuss identification of land for two depots of Metro on both the corridors. About 20 hectare land will be required for each depot.

The East-West Corridor covers a 14-km stretch from Gomti Nagar to Rajajipuram. “The DMRC had designed alignment to start the Metro from an area where traffic density was low. So,it has been asked to extend the Metro by about 5 km to a place where the traffic density is high,” said Mukesh Kumar Meshram,Vice-Chairman of LDA.

In the same corridor in Gomti Nagar,DMRC was planning a turn to the Metro near Vipul Khand and ending it at Hahnneman Crossing via Patrakarpuram. To enable the residents of Gomti Nagar Extension to use the Metro, the LDA has asked DMRC to do away with the turn at Vipul Khand, but go straight to

Husadiya crossing and then turn it to end at the Hahnneman crossing.

The DMRC had designed the alignment of the 27-km North-South Corridor, starting from Krishna Nagar — about 4-km before Amausi Airport. The LDA has asked the corporation to extend the corridor up to Amausi for convenience of the passengers who will land at the airport.

The DMRC will submit the modified alignment of both the corridors to LDA next week, said Meshram.

About land for depots,Meshram claimed that sites proposed by DMRC were not practical and the LDA may have to go for fresh land acquisition.

S D Sharma said,“The LDA is yet to decide on land for the depots. We basically inspected the proposed routes of the Metro today.”

On February 5,the LDA had signed a MoU with DMRC,enabling the latter to prepare a detailed project report (DPR) of Lucknow Metro. The LDA has tied up with Central Road Research Institute (CRRI) to prepare a Comprehensive Mobility Plan of Lucknow.

A meeting of CRRI with DMRC and LDA will held very soon. “The study of CRRI will be used to prepare a DPR of Metro,” an LDA official said.
