Demand of HC Bench meets lawyers’ protest

The demand of creating a separate Bench of the Allahabad high Court in west Uttar Pradesh has met with a strong protest from lawyers with a large number of them shunning work on Tuesday.

The demand of creating a separate Bench of the Allahabad high Court in west Uttar Pradesh has met with a strong protest from lawyers with a large number of them shunning work on Tuesday.

The members of Allahabad High Court Bar Association (AHCBA) took out a procession in front of the High Court opposing any move of creating another Bench.

Some senior lawyers, however, termed the protest by a section of lawyers as “a selfish move”.

“The creation of a Bench in Meerut will help lots of litigants. But some lawyers don’t want it because of personal interests and benefits as after the creation, they would lose their income,” said a senior advocate.

The president of AHCBA,V C Mishra, refuted the charges of vested interests and said the creation of the Bench will go against the spirit of justice as disintegration of judiciary will weaken the system.

“If creating a separate Bench is really needed then shift the entire High Court to Meerut, but division of judiciary will not be tolerated,” said Mishra.

The issue has taken the centrestage ahead of the AHCBA election scheduled for October 8.
