Court reserves order on Khurshid case

Lucknow Bench of the Allahabad High Court on Thursday reserved its order on a petition seeking the removal of Congress MP Salman Khurshid from the post of law minister.

Lucknow Bench of the Allahabad High Court on Thursday reserved its order on a petition seeking the removal of Congress MP Salman Khurshid from the post of law minister.

The petition was filed by advocate Ahok Pande, who had argued that the law minister, despite being held guilty of violation of model code of conduct, further challenged the Election Commission by promising quota for the Muslims.

The ECI then wrote to the President of India for appropriate action and the President,in turn, referred it to the Prime Minister, the petition said. Pande urged the court to direct the Prime Minister to “remove Khurshid from the post of law minister for violating the Constitution and the oath taken as a minister,” he said.

Additional Solicitor General Ashok Nigam, who appeared on behalf of the Indian government argued the petition was not maintainable as the matter was pending before the Prime Minister.
