Couple attempts suicide,child hurt

A couple attempted suicide by setting themselves ablaze in Lucknow’s Cantonment area on Thursday. Their one-year-old son also sustained minor burns in the incident.

According to the relatives of the couple — Shyam Sunder Dixit (33) and Soni Dixit (31) — they used to have regular tiffs and had an altercation on Wednesday night as well. The couple has two children — Som (3) and Surya (1). Both the children were present in the room at the time of the incident but only Som sustained burns. The three were rushed to the Civil Hospital,from where the couple was referred to Sushrut Institute of Plastic Surgery.

Shyam Sunder works in a local bakery.

“The reason behind the altercation is yet to be ascertained. So far,no case has been registered in this matter,” said Kuldeep Singh,Inspector (Cantonment).
